Electrical Storm

Tonight a big electrical and wind storm moved in.  Right now the wind is gusting to about 50 mph and it’s pouring cats and dogs.  This must be a microburst.  I haven’t seen rain like this since I was in a tropical storm in Chile.  The intercloud lightening about an hour ago was awesome.

8/29/08 – Weather service reported that the temperature during the storm was 64 F.  We got 2 inches of rain.  Wind speed 54 mph with gusts to 75 mph.  No wonder all the branches on the mulberry tree were pointed in the same direction!

I was sent from the Red Cross yesterday to respond to a report of a microburst i the Chinle,Many Farms area for reports of a storm that had taken roofs off of houses and left families stranded and a report that there was flooding and a possible problem with the resevoir being overwhelmed by water…I hadn’t heard of such kinda damage from a ‘microburst…and see you experienced one firsthand…up in the reservation..

The microbust I experienced was in Mesa, they are common here during the monsoon. A microburst feels like a mini hurricane, and I expect the structural damage is similar.
