John Beckett’s Will
I John Beckett of the County of Floyd & State of Virginia do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following, (that is to say:)
1st I give to my wife Anna Beckett one cow her choice one bed & furniture her choice and as much of my cupboard ware and castings as she may consider that she needs for her use.
2dly I desire that the remainder of my perishable part of property, house hold and kitchen furniture also my smith tools and farming utensils be immediately sold after my decease and out of the monies arising therefrom all my Just debts paid. And the remainder to be equally divided between my two daughters Elizabeth Terry and Anna Walters.
3dly I give one third part of the plantation whereon I now live to my wife Anna Beckett for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give the same to my son John Beckett and his heirs for ever.
4thly I give to my son John Beckett the other two thirds of the tract of land on which I now live for him and his heirs to enjoy for ever. I also desire that the above named perishable property that I gave to my wife Anna After her decease If there be any remaining be equally divided between my two daughters Elizabeth & Anna.
5thly I give to my son Samuel Beckett one dollar to be paid out of the sale money.
6thly I desire that my son John pay my son William Beckett five dollars after my decease.
And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my son John Beckett and my wife Anna Beckett executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 27th day of August 1835.
