Abraham Lawshe’s Will
In
the name of God Amen.
I Abraham Lawshe of the township of Delaware
County of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey knowing the uncertainty of life and
that I must soon commit my spirit to God who gave it, and being of sound and
disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament
in manner and form following. Viz:
1st:
It is my will and I direct that my executors hereinafter named do pay all my
just and lawfull debts and funeral expenses as soon
after my decease as may be convenient.
2nd:
It is my will that in one year after my decease (except all my heirs should
otherwise agree) my executors shall sell all my property both real and personal
and make distribution of the proceeds in the following manner. Viz:
3rd:
I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Lawshe
(in lieu of dower) during her life the interest arising from one third of the
money for which my land may be sold which money to be secured by bond and
mortgage on the farm on which I now live and at her death this money to be
divided equally among my heirs.
4th:
I give and bequeath to my son William Lawshe $500 five
hundred dollars also one horse which he may choose from among the horses I may
own at my decease.
5th:
I give and bequeath to
my daughter Ann S. Lawshe the sum of $300 three
hundred dollars.
6th:
I give and bequeath to
my daughter Sarah Lawshe the sum of $300 three
hundred dollars.
7th:
The residue of my estate both real and personal I order and direct to be
divided equally share and share alike between my children, William Lawshe, Robert S. Lawshe, Arthur
P. Lawshe, Ann S. Lawshe,
Sarah Lawshe, Mary E. Hendricks (formerly Mary E. Lawshe), Rachel Craft (formerly Rachel Lawshe),
or their lawfull heirs.
8th:
I hereby nominate and appoint my two sons Robert S. Lawshe
and William Lawshe to be the executors of this my
last will and testament.
Signed
sealed and published as my last will and testament this fifth day of September
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven (1867).

codicil of my last will. Viz:
In
addition to what I have bequeathed to my wife Sarah Lawshe
I direct my executors to pay her three hundred dollars within three months of
my decease.
