Abraham Lawshe’s Will
In the name of God Amen.
I Abraham Lawshe, Sen’r of the Township of Amwell,
County of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey considering the uncertainty of this
life; being aged, tho of sound mind and memory
blessed be Almighty God for the same. Do
make and publish this my last will and testament in
manner and form as follows Viz
First: unto Margaret my beloved wife, I give and bequeath
one bedstead, one feather bed, and other bedding complete thereunto
belonging. I further give and bequeath
unto my said wife Margaret my large cupboard with the linens and woolings and cupboard contains at the time of my decease.
I do further will and ordain that my executors hereafter
named do place the sum of eight-hundred dollars of my estate at interest and
they my executors do pay the interest arising from the said eight-hundred
dollars unto my wife Margaret annually during her lifetime and if the said
interest should prove deficient for the support of my said wife my will is that
more be added.
Second: unto my son John Lawshe of
the State of Pennsylvania I give and bequeath the sum of four dollars and no
more and I do hereby acquit and discharge my son John Lawshe
his heirs executors and administrators from the payment of any bond and bonds
promissory note and notes or book accounts and interest due on the name I hold
against him my said son John at the time of my decease and that all our
accounts stand ballanced and settled.
Third: I do further will and ordain that my executors
hereafter named do sell all my moveable estate goods and chattles
(except those articles given unto my wife as aforesaid). I do further will and
order that my executors do sell the lot of land whereon I now live situate in
the Township aforesaid and also my wood lot adjoining the aforesaid lot
reserved at the time I sold the plantation to my son in law William Moore. Which said two lots of land
I do hereby order and direct my executors to sell as soon as conveniently may
be after my decease.
Fourth: all my estate of whatever it consists not heretofore
disposed of in this my last will and testament I give and bequeath unto my sons
and daughters namely Henry Lawshe Jacob Lawshe Abraham Lawshe Anne Moore
and Margaret Moore to be equally divided between them share and share alike.
Fifth: all the gifts bequest and annuities, above mentioned
given to my wife Margaret are to be considered in lieu of her right and dower.
And lastly I do hereby nomminate
and appoint my sons Henry Lawshe, Jacob Lawshe and Abraham Lawshe
executors of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal
this thirteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and thirteen 1813.

Hunterdon County: Asa Jones one of the witnesses to the within will being
duly sworn according to law did depose and say that he saw Abraham Lawshe the Testator herein named sign and seal the same and
heard him publish pronounce and declare the within writing to be his last will
and testament and that at the doing thereof he the said Testator was of sound
and disposing mind and memory as far as he knows and as he verily believes and
that James Jones and John Lequear the other
subscribing witnesses were present at the same time and signed their names as
witnesses to the said will together with this dependent in the presence of the
said Testator.
