Martin Weddle’s Will

In the Name of God, Amen. I Martin Wadle in Botetourt County & Colony of Virginia being in perfit halth & Sound Memory, Blessed be God for all his mercis but knowing the frailty of the Bodey & the Immortality of the Soul & in the Provadence of God being called to go a Jorney doth this Seventeenth day of October 1782 Mak this my last Will and Testement in manner & form as followeth. First I commit my Spirit into the hand of God who gave it & my bodey to the dust to be berried at the descration of my frends & Executors & I alow all my Lawfull debts to be paid & funeral charges & next I alow and bequeath unto Benjamin Wadle my beloved son five Shillings, Virginia Currency if demanded & no more, because I have given him the part of my Estate that I allow to give him & that to be paid him on his order, Twelve Months after my Dece, & next I alow & bequeath unto Kathrean Wadle my beloved wife during her natril life to live in my dwelling house & to be found in a Suficiency of good firewood, holled to her house & cut & Split Suteble for her & to find her fifteen Bushels of Merchionible Wheat & five Bushels of Riy or Indin Corn every year of her natril life & Likewise 150 lb of Pork & Beef and to keep her a Cow and Calf & to use them as what is suficient both winter & Sumer & to keep her a hors or mare so as she may have it when she please & to keep her five Sheep all in a suficient manner & to find her 28 ft of swingled flax or the value thereof in Hemp & to find her 2 pear of Shuse all Yearly, every year of her natural life, and to pay for her wifing the same, & to find her half a Bushel of salt yearly all which I alow to be given her from the benefit & Income of my Plantation & I likwis Give & bequeath unto my Daughter Barbara Philsthimer and her husband John Philtshimer & to their Heirs Executors Administrators on all my real and personal Estate whatsoever I am or may be possed & I appoint & Impower my beloved wife Kathrin Wadle and John Philsthimer, my son in Law, my Lawfull executors to fulfill this my last will & Testament & I dise nul all former will, & Testaments, & Logiscays? Whatsoever. Given under my hand & Seall

This Instrument of writing was presented in Court as and for the last Will & Testament of Martin Wadle dece’d and Proved by the Oaths of John Pedan, Robert Beavers & John Pedan, jr witnesses thereto and Ordered to be recorded & on the Motion of John Philsthimer one of the Executors therein named who made Oath according to Law Certificate is granted him for obtaining Probate thereof in due form he having first entered into and Acknowledged Bond in Five Hundred pounds with John Pedan & John Henry his securities according to Law, and lease is reserved for Kathrine Wadle the other Exec’r to join in the Probate.
