William Tippett’s Will
In the name of God Amen. I die and my body returns unto the dust, and my soul unto God who gave it. Amen. After all my just debts are discharged and my funeral expenses are paid, I dispose of my worldly property which it has pleased God to give me, as follows viz:
Item I give to my beloved wife Martha, one third part of of my real estate (Lands) which she would be entitled to by Law. I also give unto my beloved wife three Negroes, Sam, Nancy his wife, and Spencer, and also all my other Household and Kitchen furniture and farming interests. I also give to my beloved wife two Horses, Prince and Jack. Also two cows and calf and also one half of all the Hogs, and Sheep, together with all the fowls. Item I give to my beloved daughter Mary Coppage Thirty dollars. Item I give to my beloved daughter Nancy Strauther $30. Item I give to my beloved daughter Alice Smallwood thirty dollars. Item I give to beloved son William, my best? Mare, one cow and one feather bed and bedstead.
Item I give to my beloved Son James, fifty Dollars for his Services in making the improvement on part of my Land.
Item I will that the remaining part of my property real and personal, be sold to the best advantage, and the money to be equally divided between my aforesaid beloved Children, my beloved daughter Sally Samuel is excepted She being heretofore amply provided for.
Item I will that out of all the legatees coming to my estate through my beloved wife, Marthy from her father and her moth that she shall have the further Sum of one Hundred dollars in addition to the property first above given unto her as aforesaid. Being now in my perfect mind I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 11th day of January in the year of our Lord 1834.

Codicil
Then I will that my beloved Son in Law George Smalwood and my beloved Son James A Tippett be my executors. I also will that the wagon with the other balance of my estate, which is not given as heretofore be also Sold and the money to be equally divided between my children as aforesaid. 11th January 1834.

At a Court held for Fauquier County, on the 24th day of March 1834
This last will and testament of William Tippett deceased together with the codicil thereto annexed was proved by the oaths of Leonard A Ficklin, Edward Dickinson and John Russell three of the Subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of James A Tippett the of the executors therein named who made oath thereto and together with William Bridwell, James Walker, Jos Thompson, Thomas Brawner and Wesley Coppage his Securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of Seven thousand conditioned as the Law directs, certificate is granted the Said Jas A Tippett for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
