Field Trip

The rainbow canyon ARC had a field trip to the repeater on top of blowhard peak near Cedar Breaks this month.  Here is a photo from the site, the building with our equipment is on the right, and Zion’s National Park is in the background. No those are not our towers. Our tower’s guys are in the shot, but the tower is to the side of me.  No matter what anyone says the iPhone camera is no where as good as a real camera, oh well.  Next time I’ll take a real camera.

My New Toy!

For our anniversary this year we decided to get each other a nice gift, it is our 10 year after all. Laurie got me this.

Yes, that is a standard size paper clip, not one of those huge ones. Dual band chinese radio, a baufeng uv-3r+. Besides being able to easily fit in my shirt pocket it has a built in vox. I haven’t tested it yet, but if it works this will likely be a great little digital mode radio to hook up to my android phone. As soon as I figure out the pinouts for the speaker mike on the radio and phone I will build a cable and APRS here I come!

Oh, Laurie got a silhouette cameo, a computerized paper/vinyl/fabric cutter. I know we are a couple weeks early on the gifts, but what can I say. Amazon was quick, and we are impatient.
